# Events

An event is any occasion your organization attends. You might bring animals to an event, for instance, at your local pet store regular weekly adoption day, or a special adoption event, or an event might simply be a fundraiser for the non-furry members of the organization. With the **Events** feature, events can be tied to other features. For instance, you can use the settings to select an option to display your event on your RescueGroups.org website home page (with our Website service). You can use both the **News** feature and the **Email Marketing Service** to publicize your event.

:::info
**Event Alerts**

If your organization has the Website service, any individual who has signed up for a user account on your website may elect to receive email alerts such as Events, News, or Favorite Breed. If they elect to receive alerts, they will receive an email about new events once a day. Note, these emails are not associated with the Email Marketing Campaigns. The email simply alerts the user of the new item (animal, event, or news). Users can subscribe or unsubscribe to these alerts using their [My Rescue web page](/doc/ec4c7f98-1f68-440e-b365-f4fc528681a1).

If you want to make sure that a user no longer receive emails from your organization, you would want to delete the user account, as well as open their associated contact record and set the Send Mail field to No. If you use our Email Marketing service, ensure that their email address(es) have been removed from your subscribers' lists.

:::

With both the **Data Management Service** and the **Website Service**, you can track events and which animals attend each.

The **Events** feature is closely tied to the animal and contacts meet requests and to the **Locations** features. Events require a **Location.** Requests for meetings with an animal require an **Event**. You can find meeting requests for an animal both on the animal's page and on the contact's page. All of these features can be tied together to give you a robust way to publicize events, promote adoptions, and easily ensure animals that specific people want to meet are available.

## Add a single Event

To add a single event, such as a fundraiser or an adoption event:

1. Click **Add an Event.**
   A form opens which allows you to disseminate details about the event.
   ![](https://outline-production-attachments.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/uploads/48da3d2a-9a3a-434b-824b-a6018154f31c/97b9399d-fe5d-4896-a320-2fa81776518f/add%20event.jpg?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Content-Sha256=UNSIGNED-PAYLOAD&X-Amz-Credential=AKIA4EOUDTOVUICLPZ4P%2F20261023%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Date=20261023T193000Z&X-Amz-Expires=86400&X-Amz-Signature=4bdca4efecf65da9c1f0c3c2b48beac7636ddd85add86d3d4148bd38ade03525&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&x-amz-checksum-mode=ENABLED&x-id=GetObject " =1091x917")
2. Name the event using a name that is meaningful to you, such as *Murry's Pet Store* or *Annual Fundraiser 2019.*
3. Select the event location from the drop-down list. If you don't have any **Locations** saved, click the green plus sign ![(plus)](https://outline-production-attachments.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/uploads/48da3d2a-9a3a-434b-824b-a6018154f31c/b6b90c85-7c90-4183-9814-1ea8ea45bdfa/add.svg?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Content-Sha256=UNSIGNED-PAYLOAD&X-Amz-Credential=AKIA4EOUDTOVUICLPZ4P%2F20261023%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Date=20261023T193000Z&X-Amz-Expires=86400&X-Amz-Signature=28bd0f05f43f970b7add6d4560941a9ee04c129079ea00e7f62b8b1848d43927&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&x-amz-checksum-mode=ENABLED&x-id=GetObject " =16x16") next to the arrow to add a location.
4. Use the calendar icons to choose a start date and time and an end date and time.
5. If the location has an address on the Web, include the website URL, if pertinent.
6. Use the WYSIWYG editor to add a description for the event. You can use this description area to add photos and video. See [WYSIWYG Editor](/doc/62a0934e-42f6-4904-887a-a4bad6187719)for details about how to use the editing function.
7. Check the checkboxes for the species attending the event. You must tick off all the species which might be attending the event in order to add those animals to the event. For instance, if you are a cat rescue but have a few adoptable dogs and one of them will be at the event, make sure you tick off cats and dogs.
8. Save the **Event**.

You can add either a single event or a recurring event. You can also copy an existing event by clicking the **Copy** icon next to that event in the list of events (Find at **Features > Events**). You can then make changes to the copied event to create a new event. This is useful when, for instance, you do adoptions at different pet stores, so the information is the same but the day and location are different.

# Select the species attending the event

When you hold an event, select each of the species that will be attending from the **Add an Event** form. Simply tick off all the species attending.

 ![](https://outline-production-attachments.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/uploads/48da3d2a-9a3a-434b-824b-a6018154f31c/5fd83f98-928a-40fe-992c-8dca8d24df6f/species.jpg?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Content-Sha256=UNSIGNED-PAYLOAD&X-Amz-Credential=AKIA4EOUDTOVUICLPZ4P%2F20261023%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Date=20261023T193000Z&X-Amz-Expires=86400&X-Amz-Signature=403997a4907c4a4ee2fb559cffee3f5a38aac830059e435a833b34c0cf0eafe4&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&x-amz-checksum-mode=ENABLED&x-id=GetObject " =832x172")

Select attending species if you plan to use the **Animal Attendance** feature of your website. If you don’t see the species you expected, you may need to enable the species under **Animals > Settings > Supported Species**. Selecting a species allows you to add animals of that species to your event. Even if your organization has only a handful of animals of a particular species (for instance, a cat rescue which has one or two adoptable dogs because your volunteer didn't pass up that injured dog in the parking lot), you will add *Dog* to your list if one of those dogs is attending an event.
