# Assign Security Roles

For your volunteers and staff to perform their duties, your organization’s Site Admins must attach roles to their User Login Account. In general, the process is to simply access the person's User Login Account and add a role that is selected from a drop-down menu. However, your new volunteer or staff member may not be listed as a Contact, so you would need to add that first. Only existing Contacts can be assigned a User Login Account.

# Assign roles 

To add roles for your volunteers and staff, they must first have an existing [User Login Account](/doc/ec1246fa-9104-454c-ae68-35fc77a4322b) . 



1. Go to **Contacts > User Login Accounts.**

2. 3. Click the **User Name.**

4. Click **Roles.** If the user has no roles it will show *Roles (0)*

5. Click **Grant a Role** to this user to add permissions.
